5. Receivers catching back up to speed

Pig Howard-1-2Pig Howard and Von Pearson are emerging as consistent targets who run every route hard in practice and give it their all on a regular basis. They’re generally the first two up in any drill, and you can tell those rising seniors are trying to take every opportunity to make their last year a good one. It’s a little bit of a slower process for Marquez North and Josh Smith, who are knocking off some rust after injuries shortened their 2014. Smith is still practicing with his ankle taped and doesn’t quite look 100% yet. North is going non-contact indefinitely and may not take any hits this spring.

Josh Malone looks improved, but is still looking for consistency as well. Receivers coach Zach Azzanni continues to praise rising senior Johnathon Johnson. His size will limit his productivity, but his practice habits and consistency are among the best on the team. Expect him to get some opportunities in 2015.
