5 Spring Position Battles to Watch

3. Cornerback

Moseley-1

Cam Sutton has one cornerback spot locked down. But that’s about all we know for sure at corner after the graduation of Justin Coleman and with the potentially-permanent absence of Michael Williams in the midst of legal issues.

Go ahead and pencil rising sophomore Emmanuel Moseley in at one spot. He showed promise in some opportunities as a true freshman after coming in as a lightly-recruited, underweight prospect in the 2014 class. Outside of Sutton and Moseley, junior Malik Foreman is the only other true scholarship cornerback on the roster right now. He should get plenty of opportunities to take the next step as well. But watch out for sophomore Rashaan Gaulden, who can play anywhere in the secondary and might be a fit at that open nickel spot. He’s an extremely promising athlete who was limited (and still will be limited this spring) with injuries as a true freshman.

More help is on the way this summer in the form of junior college transfer Justin Martin and newcomers Micah Abernathy and Darrell Miller, but we’ll have a better idea what this spot will look like after spring practice.
