Pre-Spring 2015 Depth Chart Projections

Aaron Medley-1

 Special Teams

Daniel:
K: Aaron Medley
P: Tommy Townsend
KR: Evan Berry
PR: Cam Sutton

Thoughts: Why mess with success? Medley, Berry and Sutton were all really good at their respective spots in 2014, so expect them to get the first look at them again in 2015, though I’m sure the coaching staff will give others a look, especially in the return game. The punting job is Townsend’s to lose and the Vols hope he has as good of a freshman campaign as Medley last year.

Houston
K: Aaron Medley
P: Tommy Townsend
KR: Evan Berry
PR: Cam Sutton

Thoughts: As Daniel mentioned, there is no need to reinvent the wheel here. The Vols closed the season with strong performances in the return-game on both kicks and punts, and Aaron Medley was nearly automatic all season long. Assuming Townsend performs well when he arrives this summer, he’ll be the guy at punter. If he doesn’t…well…just hope he can do it well when he gets here.

Reed:
K: Aaron Medley
P: Tommy Townsend
KR: Evan Berry
PR: Cam Sutton

Thoughts: Tennessee had one of the best special teams units in the nation last year and will have the top returning group this year per ESPN’s FPI. Medley was one of the better kickers in the league last year, Evan Berry was a top-10 returner nationally and Cam Sutton was electric at punt returner. Tommy Townsend will get every chance to win the starting job at punter – he’s the only real question mark here unless they decide to go with someone different at returner in order to rest Berry and Sutton for their other roles.
