Richardson Receives SEC Honors

Josh Richardson-1-14Tennessee guard Josh Richardson was named to the All-SEC First Team by the league’s coaches on Tuesday.

Richardson, a 6-foot-6 senior out of Edmond, Okla., was also named to the league’s All-Defensive Team for the second consecutive season, making him the first ever Vol to earn multiple selections to that team.

“We’re obviously very happy and proud of Josh,” said Tennessee head coach Donnie Tyndall in a press release. “These are both very well deserved honors for him. He’s had an incredible senior season and has represented our university and basketball team in exactly the right way.”

“I’m thankful to see the hard work pay off,” Richardson added. “This wouldn’t be possible without my teammates. And coach Tyndall has been very supportive this year. But there’s still plenty of work be done this season.”

Transitioning into the role of point guard in Tyndall’s first year as head coach, Richardson has been the Vols’ best all-around player during the 2014-15 season, averaging 15.6 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 3.7 apg and playing a league-high 36.2 minutes per night, despite opposing defenses regularly scheming for him and sending extra defensive attention his way. In total, Richardson either scored or assisted approximately 40 percent of UT’s offense this season.

The Vols (15-15, 7-11 SEC) earned the No. 10 seed in the SEC Tournament and will play No. 7 Vanderbilt on Thursday night (7 pm ET) at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.
