RTI Radio hosted CBSSports.com/NFLDraftScout.com’s Dane Brugler recently to discuss everything surrounding the upcoming April NFL Draft.
He gave us his thoughts on Justin Coleman’s draft stock and also weighed in on some of the talent on UT’s roster that will be eligible for the draft in either 2016 or 2017. Here are his thoughts:
On who stood out in general when watching UT on film:
“A few underclassmen stood out. There’s talent at the wide receiver position, obviously. Good young talent – offensive line was very young. That Von Pearson is a player that you expect big things from moving forward. Pig Howard, another one. And on defense, that freshman defensive end (Derek Barnett) is a player we’re going to be hearing about a lot going forward. “So some good young talent. Obviously not the best senior group this year in terms of draftable talent, but definitely some promising young guys to look forward to.”
On Curt Maggitt’s NFL future:
“He’s a player that had a good bounce-back year. I want to say he had something like 15 TFLs, he’s just very active in the backfield. It’s good to see that recovery from him, obviously he needed it and he was able to do so. Another year of staying healthy will help him. He’s one of those names that we talk about the SEC guys that we’re going to be talking about this time next year possibly, he’s a name that comes up for Tennessee, so Curt is definitely a player we’ll be talking about next year.”
On Joshua Dobbs’ upside:
“I didn’t study any of his film extensively, just knowing he wouldn’t be part of this draft class, but obviously when you watch Tennessee, you can’t help but notice some of the athleticism, the playmaking skills that he has. Tennessee just seems like a different offense when he was under center, and so a lot of promising things from him and more than just an athlete who can move – I think he had eight rushing touchdowns – but he also close to 65% completions. So a guy that’s a true dual-threat, not just an athlete who also a strong arm, he actually has passing intangible and things you look for, so I think Joshua Dobbs, if we’re talking about some of the short list of guys we’ll be talking about moving forward, he’s definitely going to be on that list.”
