Way-Too-Early 2015 Depth Chart Projections

Jalen Hurd-1-3

 Backfield

Daniel:
QB: 1. Joshua Dobbs 2. Quinten Dormady
RB: 1. Jalen Hurd 2. Alvin Kamara

Thoughts: Pretty simple at running back, in my opinion. The Vols will use these two as much as possible, while trying to keep them healthy because depth is extremely limited. Dobbs is the obvious choice at starting quarterback, and, for now, I’m putting Dormady as the backup simply because he comes in as a 19-year old who was raised by a coach and will go through spring practice. But we might as well pick from a hat between him, Jauan Jennings and Sheriron Jones right now – that one will have to be settled in fall camp.

Houston:
QB: 1. Joshua Dobbs 2. Quinten Dormady
RB: 1. Jalen Hurd 2. Alvin Kamara

Thoughts: The only battle in the backfield is for the backup quarterback spot. Hurd and Kamara should probably be listed as co-starters, and will be among the better duos in the league for 2015. At quarterback, Joshua Dobbs is the guy, but who backs him up will be an interesting storyline. I’m torn between Dormady and Jennings, but will give the nod to Dormady since he will have been through a spring practice and multiple film sessions.

Reed:
QB: 1. Joshua Dobbs 2. Sheriron Jones
RB: 1. Jalen Hurd 2. Alvin Kamara

Thoughts: Kamara and Hurd may see the same number of carries and even some time in the backfield together, but I like Hurd to start. He recored over 1,100 yards from scrimmage last year behind a miserable OL and will be tough to dethrone. Dobbs will finally go into the season as the presumed starter. The race for backup QB will be intriguing – recent history suggests whoever wins that job will see significant action this fall. My bet is Sheriron Jones. He’s got a big arm, is a heady player and has plus mobility. It’ll depend on how quickly he adjusts to the college game but I like him to emerge as the No. 2 several games into the season. Yet, as Daniel stated, we might as well flip a coin until we see them all throw together.
