Report Card: Vols 2015 Signing Class

Preston Williams-1-2

 Receivers/Tight Ends

New additions: Preston Williams, Vincent Perry (blueshirt/commit),  TE Kyle Oliver,  TE Eli Wolf (walk-on)

Daniel: At receiver, Williams is one of the best players in the country. His injury could set him back some, but he’s aiming to return by the start of the 2015 season. He was simply a physical freak in high school that was too big and too fast to be covered with any regularity. If he can return to 100 percent, he could be an impact player. Perry, who is expected to join this summer, could be a hidden gem as a slot receiver. He also was limited by injury in high school, so his potential hasn’t been reached yet. Nothing too flashy at tight end, but adding Oliver and Wolf gives an already improved group some more depth. Grade: B+

Houston: At receiver, it was also quality over quantity in 2015. Preston Williams was one of the best high school receivers in the country until a late injury cut his season short. Williams is currently ahead of schedule in his recovery, so fall camp should tell us all we need to know about what type of impact he can have for the Vols in 2015. When healthy, there are few better at the position than Preston Williams. Vincent Perry may need some time to get used to the position, but has the skill set to develop into a solid option for the Vols in the slot after Pig Howard graduates. Expect the coaches to try and put a lot of weight on Kyle Oliver at tight end while still utilizing him primarily as a receiving threat. All in all, it wasn’t a group that will garner a lot of national attention, but the Vols got some quality players here. Grade: B
