RTI’s Take:

Daniel: Martin had quite a meteoric rise in the recruiting world, going from a lightly-recruited high school player – partially because of grades – to a junior college prospect all the way to near the top of the JUCO rankings by the time his season was over. Like Abernathy, Martin brings good length to the position, something that is being coveted more and more in the SEC. Receivers in the 6-foot-3+ range are the norm on most rosters, so having guys who can matchup from that perspective is important. I put him in the conversation to play early. Cam Sutton is really the only corner on the current roster that is clearly better than him at this point.

Reed: I’ve heard a few NFL scouts say they think Justin Martin has the potential to be a first round NFL draft pick. While that may be strong praise, he clearly has the tools to challenge for a starting job the moment he steps on campus. Tommy Thigpen said Martin might play “some offense” at Tennessee. He could be a two way player, but he projects at corner long term. And the Vols need a cornerback to lock down the spot opposite Cam Sutton and need to find a replacement for Justin Coleman. Don’t be surprised if makes a strong push at one of those positions when camp kicks off.
