Vols Announce Two Staff Promotions

Zach Azzanni-1Tennessee announced two staff changes on Friday afternoon, coming on the heels of naming Mike DeBord the offensive coordinator earlier in the day.

Receivers coach Zach Azzanni, viewed as the top in-house candidate for the offensive coordinator spot before DeBord was hired, has been promoted to passing game coordinator.

“Zach has been instrumental in our continued growth, development, and success as an offense, particularly in the passing game,” said head football coach Butch Jones. “He is consistently on the cutting edge of offensive football, and I look forward to his continued contributions to our offense here at Tennessee.”

The role of recruiting coordinator, which Azzanni previously held, has been transferred to running backs coach Robert Gillespie.

“Robert continues to demonstrate the interpersonal and organizational skills required to lead a coaching staff in attracting the highest caliber student-athlete to Tennessee,” Jones said. “He has made tremendous contributions with his efforts in coaching our running backs and with the entire recruiting process. We know he will continue to play a significant role in our recruiting success.

“I know both will continue to make strong contributions moving forward toward our progress in returning Tennessee Football to its rightful place among the nation’s elite, and I’m excited at what we can accomplish collectively as a coaching staff moving forward.”
