RTI’s Take:
Daniel: Jones is such an intriguing prospect for the Vols. He knew Joshua Dobbs would be the returning starter, and he knew Quinten Dormady and Jauan Jennings would already be on campus as well when he gets to Knoxville all the way from California. But he doesn’t fear the competition and was 100% Vol once he committed after Will Muschamp was fired from Florida. We list Jones as a dual-threat quarterback, but he views himself more as a guy who can use his feet when there isn’t a throw to be made. He will have a fantastic chance to come in and compete for that backup role to Dobbs over the summer.
Houston: I’m still blown away that the Vols were able to add Jones to this class AFTER already having Quinten Dormady and Jauan Jennings enrolled at Tennessee and AFTER offensive coordinator and quarterback coach Mike Bajakian moved on to the NFL. Jones has every tool you look for in an elite-level quarterback and is a perfect fit for the offensive system that Tennessee runs. He has the leadership qualities, above-average arm strength and advanced mobility at the position that should make for an exciting career on Rocky Top. He will have some work to do if he wants to catch up to Dormady and Jennings, but seems like the type of player who would be up for such a challenge.
