RTI’s take:

Daniel: Two things come to mind with Kelly: depth and potential. Depth because he provides it for the Vols, who have just one returning scholarship running back on the roster (Jalen Hurd). And potential because Kelly is a little raw as a running back after playing multiple positions in high school, but has a fair amount of upside once he learns some of the nuances of the spot. He’s not a true burner in my mind, but he runs hard and powerfully. He may not be an immediate-impact guy, but the Vols needed help at running back and certainly got it with Kelly.

Houston: Kelly doesn’t blow you away from an ability standpoint, but he will add depth to a position group that is in desperate need of bodies heading into the 2015 season. He runs with a low center of gravity and is hard to bring down on first contact, but doesn’t yet possess that elite speed to turn good plays into great plays. He’s a dependable back with good vision who should benefit from time in the strength and conditioning program, as well as getting the opportunity to watch and train with Jalen Hurd and Alvin Kamara.
