RTI’s Take:
Daniel: Along with Phillips and the likes of Kahlil McKenzie and others, Tuttle is a big part of what many are calling this the best defensive line class in the nation. Tuttle moves better than a 315-pound man should be able to, and though he needs to physically mature a bit, he has huge upside like many of the other incoming defensive linemen as well. Look for him to be a rotational player next year with a chance to start by his sophomore or junior season.
Houston: The Vols needed DTs in this class, and Shy Tuttle was a huge addition. He needs a bit of work physically, which is why getting him on campus in January was so important for his potential in 2015. I could see him beginning the season at around ten snaps a game at the start of the season and expanding his role as he learns the system and develops his body. He has a good burst and a good motor, but will really explode – in my opinion – in year two of his time at Tennessee.
Reed: Tuttle has loads of upside. He’s surprisingly quick for a man of his size and could develop into an absolute monster at defensive tackle, especially against the pass. He needs to cut some weight and reshape his body a bit before he sees the field, but don’t count him out as a contributor this season.
