A source close to his recruitment confirmed to Rocky Top Insider late on Monday night that offensive tackle target and Memphis-native Drew Richmond has officially decommitted from Ole Miss. Richmond originally committed to Ole Miss on September 9th, but has long been the top-target on the recruiting board of Tennessee’s Butch Jones. Rumors began to swirl Monday morning on Twitter that Richmond was leaning towards signing with Tennessee, and tonight’s decommitment would appear to lend credence to those claims.
The Vols have had the majority of their 2015 recruiting class assembled for a quite some time, and the coaching staff recently focused their efforts on Drew Richmond to give this class a much-needed impact player at offensive tackle.
After recently convincing Richmond to make a final official recruiting visit to Knoxville, Butch Jones spent the majority of this past weekend personally hosting and recruiting Richmond and his family, and it appears that the head man’s efforts have made quite an impression on the 6’5, 325-pound Memphis University School standout.
Richmond is not expected to have a signing day ceremony on Wednesday, having opted to simply sign his National Letter of Intent and fax it to his school of choice. While Tennessee has not been announced as his official choice at this time, tonight’s events point towards the Vols adding a big piece to their 2015 class on National Signing Day.
