Other Jones connections to keep in mind: With National Signing Day coming up this week, it isn’t out of the realm of possibility that Jones has kept a serious candidate quiet. These names haven’t received a lot of attention in other reports, but they make some degree of sense and should be kept on the radar until a hire is made:
Herb Hand (Run game coordinator/OL coach, Penn State): Jones has spoken highly of Hand before after the two worked for Rich Rodriguez at West Virginia. He has SEC experience, is a great recruiter and knows a lot about what Jones would want to accomplish on offense.
Calvin Magee (Co-offensive coordinator, Arizona): Magee is another former WVU assistant who still works with Rodriguez, now at Arizona.
Matt LaFleur (QBs coach/Notre Dame): LaFleur overlapped with Jones one season (2004) at Central Michigan, spent several years as an NFL assistant coach, was an OC at Ashland University (2007) and now coaches quarterbacks at Notre Dame.
