Who’s Next? Looking at Potential OC Candidates

Also worth mentioning so there aren’t riots:

• Tee Martin, WRs coach/passing game coordinator, Southern Cal: He needs no introduction after leading the Vols to a national title in the 1998 season as a quarterback. He’s made stops at New Mexico, Kentucky and now Southern Cal and is viewed as a bright recruiter and offensive mind. Butch Jones brought him in for an interview when putting together his initial staff in 2013, but the two sides didn’t come to an agreement.

• George Quarles, head coach, Maryville (Tenn.) High School: He’s always brought up anytime there’s an offensive opening on Tennessee’s staff. And with good reason. He’s among the best high school coaches ever in the state, if not the nation, and is a bright offensive mind. He’s been perfectly content to pile up state titles with the Rebels, but perhaps one day he’ll be tempted by a high-level coaching opportunity and follow the path of other high school coaches who worked their way up such as Gus Malzahn. Don’t count on it here and now though.

Jim Bob Cooter, QBs coach, Detroit Lions: Best known for his name, the former UT backup quarterback is also carving a nice role as an assistant coach in the NFL, and is even receiving some NFL OC consideration.

• Peyton Manning, QB, Denver Broncos: Not happening. But there may be revolts if we don’t put his name on the list somewhere.
