8. Vols pull out sluggish win over Arkansas State
The Red Wolves ended the season a respectable 7-6 with a bowl appearance, so it’s not that they were a horrible team. Still, a week after blowing Utah State out in the opener, Tennessee struggled a bit with ASU and running quarterback Fredi Knighten, who accounted for over 200 yards and a pair of touchdowns to keep his team within striking distance. ASU struck first for an early 7-0 lead and, though the Vols were able to take take that from ASU, the Red Wolves had the game within two scores for much of the afternoon. A late Aaron Medley field goal to put UT 34-19, the final margin, ended ASU’s realistic chances, but it was still a little too close for comfort for UT fans.
