6. A.J. Johnson/Michael Williams suspended amidst rape allegations
Tennessee’s late-season run was somewhat overshadowed by the dark cloud of rape allegations against defensive back Michael Williams and star senior linebacker A.J. Johnson. To date, no charges have been filed against either, but Butch Jones went ahead and suspended both with authorities looking into an alleged incident that happened at a local apartment complex the day after Tennessee beat Kentucky. The case has been turned over to the District Attorney’s office, with both players remaining indefinitely suspended. It was a particularly shocking turn of events for Johnson, especially, who was the face of the defense and a sure-fire future NFL draft pick. The future, both on and off the field, remains in doubt for both.
