Speaking of options in the secondary, Gaulden, also a true freshman, might be the biggest Swiss Army Knife that John Jancek has. Jancek has said that he can play literally any position in the secondary, though it seems that nickelback might be his future home – and possibly a spot where he could start at as soon as next season as the Vols will need to re-tool their secondary in a couple areas.
Gaulden’s been everywhere on special teams, showing that he’s close to making that jump into being a regular contributor on defense. He’ll need to continue to learn the defense, bulk up and get healthy after dealing with a hand injury throughout the course of this season.
