USA Today released its annual look at assistant coaches’ contracts on Wednesday afternoon. Athletics director Dave Hart promised that Butch Jones’ pool of money for his assistants will be raised in conjunction with Jones’ new deal, but hasn’t released terms yet.
According to the USA Today, here’s how much UT’s assistants got paid in 2014 with their national ranking in parenthesis:
Defensive Coordinator John Jancek: $480,000 (T-77)
Offensive Coordinator Mike Bajakian: $480,000 (T-77)
Defensive Line Coach Steve Stripling: $385,000 (122)
Linebackers Coach Tommy Thigpen: $375,000 (130)
Offensive Line Coach Don Mahoney: $355,000 (T-146)
Defensive Backs Coach Willie Martinez: $355,000 (T-146)
Receivers Coach Zach Azzanni: $305,000 (T-197)
Running Backs Coach Robert Gillespie: $305,000 (T-197)
Tight Ends Coach Mark Elder: $225,000 (374)
Collectively, Tennessee’s assistants are the 15th-highest paid in the nation and the seventh-highest paid in the SEC at $3,265,000.
