Jones Talks Contract, Job Speculation

Butch Jones-1In the midst of speculation from multiple outlets that Butch Jones could be in contention for the Michigan job, Tennessee’s head coach again declined to go into specifics when asked about it.

“I’m not going to get into any speculation or anything like that,” Jones said after Tennessee’s first bowl practice since the 2010 season. “I’m excited about what’s going on here. We’re working to get things done here as well.”

Asked about reports that athletics director Dave Hart is in the process of re-working Jones’ contract to get him a raise and/or an extension, Jones did say that there could be some news on that front sooner than later.

“Work in progress,” he said. “Our athletic administration and everyone here has been extremely supportive of everything, in terms of resources and support. I would anticipate something coming here very shortly.”

Of the 13 schools that report salary information, Jones is currently the 11th-highest paid coach in the conference with a salary of approximately $3 million per year.
