Football Progress
Tennessee is an improved football team this year and any unbiased observer can see that. The Vols were outscored by 62 points and outgained by 781 yards last season. Heading into the Vandy game, they’ve bested opponents by 37 points and 47 yards. That’s a 99 point and 828 yard swing from a year ago – both margins should grow this weekend.
In games against the SEC East, the Vols have outscored their opponents 157 to 132. Each of their losses to teams within the division came by one possession – Tennessee is very close to competing for the SEC East crown. The Vols have outscored their opponents by 3.4 points per game (27.9 to 24.5) – that’s the highest margin for a Vol team since 2009 (29.3 to 22.2).
Is the team progressing fast enough for some Vol fans? Of course not. But progress and improvement is undeniable. As long as the team continues to improve, fans have a reason to be thankful.
