RTI’s Midseason Superlatives

Aaron Medley-1

 Special Teams MVP

Daniel: K Aaron Medley. He’s still not at that point where you trot him out there from 50-in and know that it’ll mean three points. But he’s getting a lot closer. He’s a very respectable 9-of-12 on field goals this season and has converted all 19 extra points. He’s getting more comfortable on kickoffs as well, sending seven of them for touchbacks against UTC last week. Kicker was a huge question mark coming into the season, but now the Vols can feel good about where they are now and the future of the position.

Houston: K Aaron Medley. Medley is off to a great start to his career. The freshman looks to have ample leg strength from 55-yards and in, and will only get better as he hones in on his accuracy. He is hitting the ball extremely well on kickoffs as of late (seven touchbacks against UTC), but has also done a great job of placing his kicks close to the sideline when the coaches have asked him to kick short. Vol fans should feel very good about the future of the kicking game at Tennessee with Aaron Medley at the helm.

Reed: K Aaron Medley. He’s really the only one in the running here. He’s 9-12 on the year, perfect on extra points and improving on kickoffs (seven touchbacks against UTC). He hit a huge field goal from 40+ at Georgia and has the leg to hit from over 50 yards. With the exception of his first attempt of the season, he’s struck the ball consistently well. Fans should have confidence when he steps on the field.
