RTI Pick Six: Week 8

TCU

No. 15 Oklahoma State  @ No. 12 TCU (-8) TV: Fox Sports 1 4 pm Saturday

Daniel: I make up new rules as I go throughout the season and here’s one for this game: you can’t beat Kansas by just one touchdown and then go on the road and beat a top-15 team the following game. Looking at you, Oklahoma State. TCU lost an insane heartbreaker to Baylor last week, but the Frogs continue to show they’re a quality team. OSU, meanwhile, hasn’t really played anybody since they put a scare into FSU in the opener. Both teams still have a ton to play for. The playoffs aren’t completely out of the question for either at this point. I like the Frogs’ body of work overall at this point and I think they bounce back for a win in a tight game. Winner: TCU 31-28

Houston:  The OSU offense is talented, but they won’t be able to do to TCU what Baylor did last week (mercy). I expect TCU to come out pissed off from the opening kickoff and take out any lingering frustration from last week against the Cowboys. Gundy’s squad has lacked an identity all season offensively and are playing a lot of young players on defense, and that plays right into the Horned Frogs’ hands in this one. OSU may hit a big play or two in this one, but I expect TCU’s defense to win the day and send the crowd home happy. Winner: TCU 38-23

Reed: TCU is a 4th quarter collapse away from being the team to beat in the Big 12. They had Baylor all but beat last week before blowing a 21-point 4th quarter lead. And I thank them because I picked Baylor. The Horned Frogs are better than their record. Patterson will have his team ready to play in this one. They know they let one get away last week and will be looking for revenge. They’ve been more efficient on offense and defense than Oklahoma State and are playing at home. This should be a comfortable win (over an Okie State team that barely beat Kansas last week) that vaults TCU back into contention for the Big 12 title. Winner: Horned Frogs 41-31

Kevin: TCU is 3-6 in their last 9 games against the spread as a home favorite, and while I believe they are the better team it’s worth remembering that in these kinds of matchups a team like Oklahoma State will have better athletes and depth. The Cowboys are 3-1 against the spread in their last four games as a road underdog, if you want to make the safe bet take the TCU money line and enjoy your winnings, but if 4:00 pm rolls around on Saturday, you’ve had a few whiskeys and feel like getting reckless with your wallet, bet on Oklahoma State to cover the spread. Winner: TCU 61-55
