Butch Jones said this week on Vol Calls that Tennessee could end up hosting as many as 200 visiting prospective student athletes this weekend for their game against Florida. I don’t know that the Vols will reach that number, but as of 2:30pm on Friday I have them at 44 in the 2015 and 2016 classes alone.
Long before the season started, the plan was for this weekend to be one of Tennessee’s biggest recruiting weekends of the year along with the two ‘Orange Carpet’ weekends over the summer and the weekend of October 25th when Tennessee will host Alabama. Butch Jones and his staff have done a magnificent job of funneling an enormous amount of talent to Knoxville this weekend despite a huge slate of games across the country where other schools will be hosting big recruiting weekends as well.
This is truly one of the most impressive visitor lists that I can remember in quite some time. The atmosphere should be electric thanks to good weather and the Checker Neyland fan movement, so it has really shaped up for a perfect weekend for the Vols if they can take care of business on the field. The Vols had great success in recruiting on the weekend of the Georgia game last year and this weekend looks to have even more energy surrounding it than that one did.
