If you were somehow left wanting more after the Vols added 5-star defensive tackle Shy Tuttle to the 2015 class this afternoon, then Butch Jones is your man.
Tennessee received their second verbal commitment of the day from 4-star athlete/defensive end Darrell Taylor this evening to cap off an outstanding Friday of recruiting heading into tomorrow’s bout with Georgia between the hedges. Taylor, a Hopewell, Virginia native, held offers from multiple powerhouse programs around the country, including Florida, Miami, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Notre Dame. Taylor was long considered to be a Virginia Tech lean, but a recent surge by the Vols flipped the scales in their favor.
Taylor is an extremely versatile athlete who plays multiple positions for his high school team, but he is expected to get his first look at defensive end should he ultimately sign with the Vols in February. He is extremely quick and has a knack for pursuing ball carriers and reading plays from his outside linebacker position, but really excels when he puts his hand in the dirt and tees off on opposing quarterbacks as a defensive end.
Taylor becomes the Vols’ seventh commitment along the defensive line for the 2015 class – which now looks primed to finish among the best DL hauls in the country.
RTI’s Daniel Lewis wrote a piece this afternoon about Tennessee’s future potential along the defensive line in coming years, and tonight’s addition of Taylor – to go along with the earlier commitment of Shy Tuttle – should do nothing but drive that point home even further.
