Five-star Vol defensive tackle commit Kahlil McKenzie, who was recently ruled ineligible for his senior season, underwent minor surgery today and Butch Jones took notice. McKenzie tweeted the above picture which serves as the latest example that Butch Jones just doesn’t stop when it comes to recruiting.
McKenzie committed to Tennessee on July 10th at The Opening in Oregon and is an RTI 4.75-star prospect. The Vols haven’t signed a true-5-star defensive tackle in the common era of recruiting coverage. McKenzie is unquestionably the centerpiece of Tennessee’s 2015 class, which currently ranks 7th in the nation according to Rivals, and should challenge for a starting defensive tackle job the moment he steps on campus.
Butch Jones knows how important Kahlil is to the Tennessee program and though McKenzie is all Vol (he even sang Rocky Top as he was waking up from surgery), Jones is still clearly recruiting the talented big man.
