 5. Continued Stability

But an upgrade in talent doesn’t necessarily mean anything without good coaching. The 2012 Vols were the poster child for this phenomenon. Fourteen Volunteer upperclassmen from that team are now currently on NFL rosters, 15 total. The entire starting offensive line, the starting quarterback, two starting wide receivers, the starting tight end and running back and four from the from the defense.

Yet they were led by a dysfunctional staff, and part of that dysfunctionality was rooted in instability. Dooley had nine assistants that season. Seven of them were new. Seven. Including Sal Sunseri and his ill-fated 3-4 defense.

Butch Jones has restored stability to this program, which will pay dividends for Team 118. Consider this: Team 118 will be lead by the exact same group of men as Team 117 was, each in their exact same role, each part of the exact same system. That hasn’t happened since the Fulmer era, and you’d have to go back quite a few years in it to find the same.

Continued stability will do nothing but benefit this team.
