Five Scheme Adjustments on Offense for 2014

Marlin Lane

 Speed it up

We saw glimpses of what the hurry-up offense could look like in 2013, but with an entire team learning a new system, it wasn’t as fast as Jones and Bajakian would’ve liked. It’ll be a tall order to go faster this season, but it’s something the Vols will need to do to help neutralize the talent and depth gap they’ll face against several of their opponents. The good news is there will be a returning quarterback, running back and every other projected starter on offense either has a year in the system, or at the very least, went through spring practice. Jones’ Cincinnati team made a nice jump in plays per game from his first to second year from 69.7 to 74.3. Look for similar improvement in overall pace for the Vols, which averaged 67 plays per game in 2013.
